Why did Bitsum go through the trouble of developing the ParkControl application for Windows? The answer is because Microsoft hid away the core parking settings in its Windows operating system. What is ParkControl and what can you do with it? The answer is that it is a free and portable tool that you can use to tweak core parking and CPU frequency scaling settings.

As mentioned above, ParkControl is portable. This means the software does not have to be installed. To get started with ParkControl, you need only download and run an executable. You do not have to go through any installation process.

ParkControl’s interface is divided into two panels: CPU Settings for Power Profile to the left, Current System Power Status to the right. The panel on the right hand side displays your CPU’s number of cores, frequency, and usage/parking status. The panel on the left hand side features a dropdown that you can use to enable a power profile. It also features options to enable the following: parking AC, parking DC, frequency scaling AC, frequency scaling DC.

The easiest way to use ParkControl is to pick a power profile and “make it active.” If you’re worried that you might mess things up, here’s what it says on ParkControl’s official webpage: “These tweaks are entirely safe for any PC that is constructed properly. The only way that they could possibly seem to cause some change in behavior is if the PC has overheating issues. In such an event, those issues would be seen regardless of these tweaks by simply placing a sustained high load on the CPU.”
